Summer, often celebrated for its vibrancy and warmth, can also evoke a profound sense of sadness for many individuals. As the days lengthen and the world fills with color and life, some may experience a poignant melancholy rooted in the fleeting nature of the season. The ephemeral beauty of blooming flowers and lush landscapes serves as a poignant reminder of the passing of time, triggering a bittersweet nostalgia for moments gone by and the awareness of their impermanence.

In literature and poetry, the theme of summer sadness is often explored, with writers and poets delving into the complexities of human emotions during this season. Through verses and evocative imagery, they articulate the wistfulness and yearning that summer can awaken in the hearts of many.

I wanted to share two poems on the theme below. With these poems I wanted to delve into the complex emotions evoked by the season and try to capture the bittersweet essence of summer, exploring themes of love, nostalgia, and the transient nature of life:

The Depth of Summer

The depth of summer is still rooted within.
Sand between my toes and sun flaked skin.
Your chin rested on my shoulder in the evening wind.
Our fingers intertwined as the moonlight shone in.

When winter comes with its dreary cloak.
And settles over my body once more.
I let a finger trace over my collarbone.
To feel the indent that you left once more.

A Summer’s Dying Wish

I am a summer’s dying wish, a whisper that you hear.
A scent of something that’s no longer there.
I had a moment to dance in the sun.
With arms wide open and hair flowing down.
The wind slowly stroking the inside of my hands.
But now it is just a forgotten dream.
Floating out into twilight, never to be seen.

Here are some famous poetry about summer;
