Where Only Echoes Live

I am my own haunting,
turning corners in forgotten rooms.
My mind runs in loops,
travelling back.

I look through glass windows
fogged by my breath,

knocking, pressing
my lips to the surface
where no sound is heard
and only echoes live.

Autumn Mist

October smells like smoke and rain
falling on my fingertips.

My hair is damp from autumn mist,
my nails brittle
from the change in the weather.

Leaves and mud
stuck to my boots—
I can’t shake them off
when I enter the hallway.

Maybe we all carry a few ghosts into autumn.

What comes back to you this time of year?

Until next time,
Jonna
