Snowbound serenity
The snow reflects the light, chasing away the dark.
Like tiny mirrors hidden within, catching the sun's every spark.
The landscape lights up in her dress of white, concealing what lies below.
Not a tiny speck of dirt, shines through all the snow.
I walk forward on my path, not breaking the winter's veil.
My soul is purged with ice-cold air, no shadow is seen today.
Winter’s morning
There is no sound in the early morning light.
Just a bird, flying through the end of the night.
Looking for something to eat, to stop his stomach’s fight.
His insides raging louder now, screaming for a bite.
He flies with all his strength, flipping his brittle wings.
Watching the landscape from up above, all the tiny things.
The winter’s veil is still laid out, beads of ice and snow.
Soon the spring will have broken out, with the sun in tow.
I wonder if he sees me from high up in the sky.
Unmoving in my bed, my baby’s sleeping tight.
Tiny eyelids flashing, a belly full of milk.
Caught up in a dream, her bed made of silk.
If I budge, she might wake up again,
so I try with all my might,
to sit as still as I possibly can
in the early morning light.
Castle of ice
I built a castle of ice,
thinking the walls would suffice.
Rock by rock I layered,
watching our home come to life with a prayer.
But the storm outside was so unfair.
The damage done could not be repaired.
I filled the holes with my bare fingers,
but the walls still wouldn’t linger.
Instead, I stood there naked in the cold, frozen fragments pierced through my soul.
I wondered if I’d ever find warmth, or if I was forever frozen in the distance.
A lonely queen of ice,
picking up the pieces of my heart in the snow.
