September is a transitional period. Summer is gone and we’re stepping into autumn. This changing of the seasons is symbolic also in our lives, in letting go of what we no longer need. I wanted to share with you two poems that I wrote for Poetic Reveries September prompt challenge.
The Grief I Never Named
The grief I never named
is seeping through me,
sticking strands of hair
to my scalp,
running down my spine,
dripping from my fingertips,
landing in the mud.
I tried to seek shelter
under the oak tree,
but the branches
tore the sky,
spelling out letters
of what was lost
long before
you were gone.

September, Take What I No Longer Need
September,
take what I no longer need.
Beads of glass
made smooth by the sea.
Stones from sand dunes
caught in the soles of my sandals.
Dried salt at the base of my neck.
Let it travel with the riptide
to places unknown.
Untangle strands of seaweed
from my wrists.
Let me follow the shoreline
beyond the current’s reach.
What are you letting go of this September?
Untill next time,
Jonna
