If you find yourself captivated by the enchanting world of Bridgerton, you are not alone. The hit Netflix show is inspired by Julia Quinn’s book series. It has charmed audiences with its depiction of romance and ambition. The story is set against the backdrop of the 19th century. As the seasons unfold, viewers are drawn into the story of the seven Bridgerton siblings. Each sibling is on their own quest for love.

The portrayal of love in season 3 by the leading couple Colin and Penelope is beautiful. Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan wonderfully depict them. This has inspired many to explore their own creativity. For some, this inspiration has found expression in poetry. Others have expressed it in fanfic. Both beautifully capture the essence of the story and the emotional journey it encompasses.

In this post, I delve into the world of Bridgerton, sharing some poems that the story inspired me to write.

The Kiss

He kissed her
in the light of the lanterns—
their gentle glow
spreading shadows
across the yard.

A spark
turning to flame,
burning so strong
it could not be contained.

It struck him
as he stood in the archway,
her warmth still clinging
in the hush of night.

It hit him
like never before:
love,
a force
impossible to hold.

Secrets and Lies

In the dark, our love
feels safe
and sound.
Words whispered at night
burst like raindrops
in the light.

Could you love me
outside the shadows
that linger—
creeping from corners,
my face flushed
with spring?

Would you stand beside me
if I stood by you,
reaching for your hand
in summer hues—
blinded by the sun,
dazed,
confused?

What Bridgerton Can Tell Us as Writers

The first poem is about the start of the love story, the second is about the progression of it. If you have watched the show or read the book, you know 😉

I found the story in the third season of Bridgerton gripping also because the couple we are rooting for are both writers. The theme of daring to show yourself to the world struck a chord with me. Allowing others to see what you create also struck a chord with me. It is something I have been thinking about ever since I started sharing my poetry. It’s a powerful exploration of the vulnerability and bravery involved in sharing your creative work with the world. This theme resonated deeply with my own experiences as a writer and creator. I think the story also poses the interesting question. How much can you compromise on your own dreams and aspirations? Is this compromise necessary in order to be with the one you love?

Now I am eagerly awaiting the release of the new episodes on June 13th. There may be more poetry to come after that.:)
